SMALL QUEENS continued...
Lot Symbol Lot Description CV / Est.
3331 C image35(4),(38): Four ONE CENT: YELLOW, and tied to each other and cover from Liscombe, NS 25 JA 92 to NORWAY, various transits and 8.II Kristiania receiver on reverse, cover also bears a ‘cosmetically applied’ 5¢ which is not correctly tied, is an out-of-period use of a Montreal printing and makes up the wrong rate (originally franked with a 6¢, to make up the 10¢ rate), cover stains and faults, interesting, but the worst ‘repair job’ we have ever seen. 3334 C image36: TWO CENT: GREEN, tied by cork to REGISTERED 1¢ POSTAL CARD from Alberton, PEI 17 AP ‘88 to Philadelphia, received 20 AP from March 1 to April 30, 1888, the Registration fee for LETTERS to the US was lowered to 2¢, and registered covers from this short period are RARE, but evidently the postmaster at Alberton thought the rate change applied to postcards as well. This is the only IN-PERIOD 2¢ REGISTERED RATE POSTCARD TO THE USA which we can recall seeing. Although anomalous and contrary to regulations (also somewhat toned and faulty at top right corner) this is a RARE POSTCARD RATE ITEM. (Image)
