98 CANADA - POSTAL HISTORY - WWII MAPS: Five different WWII AIR NAVIGATION EDITION MAPS of southern Saskatchewan / Manitoba. Scale 1 inch to 8 miles (1:506,880). Base maps of Canada Dept of Mines & Resources, Surveys & Engineering Branch, Hydrographic & Map Service, dated 1939/40. Overprinted “Air Navigation Edition” in purple with extensive aeronautical information, including names of many RCAF bases and seaplane anchorages. Sheets dated June to October 1944. Likely used by trainee aircrew of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Mail routes are marked on Kenora-Hudson sheet, with direction and frequency. The major air corridor, Green Airway No 1, crosses the sheets, close to CN and CP rail lines. (Running S of Indian Head, N of Brandon, over Portage La Prairie, Winnipeg/St Boniface, Kenora, Hudson/Sioux Lookout). Three southern sheets: Indian Head-Brandon, Brandon-Winnipeg (also has Blue Airway No 8) and Kenora-Hudson overlap two sheets to north: Broadview-Dauphin & Neepawa-Gypsumville. Thus, Green Airway No 1 on all sheets. Interesting for early Air Mail & WW2 specialists.
