4430 S imagePostal History. 1891 Type F1 'FARINA/JY2/91/SA' (A1, Rated 3R) five good to fine strikes on 2d orange DLR P10 x5 on cover to Saxony "via Brindisi", poor 'P.A. RAILWAY' transit & 'ZEITZ/12.8/91' arrival backstamps, vertical fold at left. [From the 'phantom' UPU period: on 1.1.1891, SA introduced a common 2½d overseas letter rate. Six weeks later, it was revoked - except for mail to GB and the 6d rate reinstated. On 1.10.1891, the Colonies officially joined the UPU and the 2½d rate was reintroduced. The sender appears to have underpaid 6d x2, thus the 2d deficiency not being detected.]
