1949 Royal Visit pictorial FDC (crown "GVIR" monogram, outline map of NZ, & frame of ferns & oak leaves), claret & pale yellow-brown, 146 x 91mm. Jones C49.1A. Scarcity 9. Fine unused (very faint tone traces). A set of 4 stamps & this FDC design
were prepared for a royal visit by King George VI & his daughters in 1949, but the visit & the stamp issue were cancelled due to the King's ill health. The stamps & almost all the unused FDCs were destroyed. Jones states that "less than 10
examples" have been recorded. Pencilled m/s "$295" (former price paid) on back of cover. Ex Horrell.
