749 imageLittle America letter 1935 - 23 Jan from Captain Innes Taylor to "Ken". "It was thoughtful of you to write me - many thanks. We are working night & day getting ready to load the ships. In a few weeks we'll be in N.Z. maybe in Christchurch, when I shall hope to have the pleasure of seeing you. Good Luck." Letter from one of the Byrd II Antarctic Expdn members on possibly "Jacob Ruppert" or "Bear of Oakland". These ships arrived in Antarctica in Jan 1935 to load Expdn equipment etc & left on 7 Feb 1935 for Dunedin, NZ. Fine condition - pencil written letter. (Image)

Cornaga Esq., New Zealand" & typed "Per favor of Mr S.E. Nielson on flight in "Southern Cross" Australia to New Zealand". Not cancelled in Australia, but both stamps canc New Plymouth cds 12 JA 33, also Auckland 14 JA, Wellington 17 JA, & partial Cambridge cds. Signed on back by crew C. Kingsford Smith, P.G. Taylor & J. Stannage, & passengers S.E. Nielson (New Plymouth Aero Club secretary) & J. Percival (journalist). Cover stained & "distressed" (front separated from back). See "Airmails of NZ, Vol 2" (DA Walker, 1986), p7 (which states "few exist today"). With m/s ink endorsement "To Mr Baggs, with many thanks from C. Kingsford-Smith". Also, original typed letter from Radio Broadcasting Co. of NZ Ltd to "Mr Baggs, District Telegraph Engineer, Nelson", thanking him for his technical help with broadcasts tracking this pioneer flight. Plus c1980 newspaper article re the flight. Rare & historic group, in VG condition. Note: folder not postally used. (Image)
