Jun 26" on adversity cover made from blue-lined writing paper datelined "24th Jun 1862, Forte Artilery" from Artillery Solider in the State Militia addressed locally to his Uncle, sender was writing from Fort Johnson in Charleston Harbor requesting "I want to join your Sharp Shooting Company if there is any chance to do so"; couple small mounting stains, F.-V.F. and rare State Militia Soldier overpaid 2¢ drop use.

The sender was in the South Carolina State Militia and CSA postal rules did not permit state militia soldiers to send mail collect. The 5¢ stamp overpaid the 2¢ drop letter fee.

THE EARLIEST DOCUMENTED USE OF THE 10¢ FRAME LINE.

Scott 10 has frameline around each stamp that were engraved on the plate and served as a guide for the siderographer when aligning the transfer roll to make the plate. There are two examples of the April 19, 1863 EDU, the cover offered here and an off-cover stamp solidifying this early date. The second earliest known date is April 23, 1863 also used from Richmond Va.

1339       imageFree Philippines, Guerrilla Postal Service, 1943, 2c blue. Tied by large purple "Posted in the Free Philippines, Mindanao Guerilla Area, 7 Jan, 1945" oval datestamp on cover addressed to APO 501 in Brisbane, Australia, "Passed by Army Examiner, Base 0173" examiner handstamp at lower left, Very Fine, a very rare, Very Fine and rare use of this private WWII military issue.
Estimate; $1,000 - 1,500.

With only 500 stamps were issued and 36 covers known, all known uses are from military men. This cover was sent from Col. Charles Parsons, who was a party leader in the Allied Intelligence Bureau.

President Manuel Quezon ordered the printing of the two centavos blue for use between Guerilla units in the Free Philippines for the identification and other purposes. Due to Japanese pressure in all areas, the plan was not carried out and only Mindanao was able to use it.
