one night sleep but about twelve or one oclock the long roll was beat. We all turned out ready to cross the Potomac. We stood in line all night and we are under marching orders to start at a moments warning. There is about 4666 cavalry and the
regiments are as thick as flies in the summer time. There is fighting every day at different place. There will be one grand battle in a few days. We have a putter harder times out here but we expect it and we are bound to see it through. We did not
get smashed up as reported. The cars run off the track 3 times between Chambersburg and Washington. There was three that fell of the cars. 1 was hurt pretty bad but is alive…"; cover reduced at right with rounded corners, F.-V.F.
