46     LAN-203 image[Langton's Pioneer Express] Lake City. Cal.; reduced at left just into printed frank, light soiling at lower left, F.-V.F., unlisted in the Thomas census and likely unique., ex-Nathan, Blaine.
Thomas No. LAN-203; Estimate $300 - 400.

Durham's "California Geographic Names" lists several locales named "Lake City", the most logical fit being the one that was in Nevada County, "2.5 miles WSW of North Bloomfield…The Bell brothers built a hotel at the site in 1855; the name 'Lake City,' given in 1857, is from a lake at the place." Gudde's "California Gold Camps" also lists it at the location in Nevada County. Scott Prior's series of route map articles in "Western Express" provides those for Langton's in the March, 2022 issue. Lake City is not shown on Prior's composite maps, as Langton did not list every mining camp stop in his advertisements and therefore Prior did not list them unless a cover was reported from there. As this cover was previously unreported, it can now be confirmed that Langton served this small mining camp in Nevada County.
