Cav., Hayters Gap near Saltville Va., original May 30th 1864 letter from Ben F. Bradley with interesting content "Dear Howard…I send, by mail, to day, "The General Orders" - price $6.00…Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see you made a Brigadier - An appointment that would do a deserved honor to an esteemed friend, & secure a faithful & efficient officer to the Government - one much more so, I sell well assured, than most of those now in it service of that rank. I fear however it would be difficult to get the appointment at this time. If Kentucky had more troops in the field much of the difficulty would be rmeoved. If we could occupy the state for while I think this would be removed. I had not heard of your fight at Dublin. The only fight we heard of at that place was the one in which Genl Jenkins was said to have been defeated. I hope you will write me particulars of your fight. Everyone here feels the utmost confidence in the success of Genls. Lee & Johnston. I think however Grant is the ablest of the Yankee Generals, who has yet commanded their armies, & will make the most daring & disrespectful efforts for victory. I have no doubt of his failure, & I hope with some confidence that it will be commensurate with his deserts."; light toning, Very Fine and interesting letter. (Image1)
