Kingstonian, cover postmarked at Palestine Field Post Office 156 (1 Apr), endorsed "OAS" in manuscript (On Active Service), to Edinburgh, Scotland, struck with violet straight-line SALVED LETTER, sealing label "OFFICIALLY SEALED IN THE / POST OFFICE" affixed in England to reverse, faults typical of such disaster mail, and a very fine example of such; the steamer Kingstonian was torpedoed by the German submarine U-68 on April 11, 1918, while carrying troops and equipment from Alexandria to Marseilles.
