1906 (May 8), Territet to Nouméa, New Caledonia, postcard datelined at the Val Mont Sanatorium, franked with 10c Numeral, tied by Caux c.d.s., to Doctor Louis Michel on board the S.S. Pacifique at Nouméa,
New Caledonia, with choice double-circle Noumea arrival on image side, a very fine card to an exotic and elusive destination.
The SS Pacifique was a vessel of the Messageries Maritimes, a French colonial steamship providing mail and
passenger "feeder" service between Nouméa, the New Hebrides, and Sydney. At the time, New Caledonia was strictly managing arrivals due to the plague and smallpox outbreaks in the region; the Docteur Michel to whom this has been addressed may have
been involved in quarantine efforts. (Image 1)
