1056			New South Wales, 1850–1900, mostly used collection, neatly presented on black quadrille pages and comprising approximately two hundred stamps, beginning with the 1850–51 Sydney Harbour Views including 2d (two) and 3d (one), followed by twenty-one examples of the 1851–59 Queen Victoria imperforates to the 1sh value with a particularly attractive range of five distinct 6d shades, including 6d and 1sh with diagonal SPECIMEN overprints, noting three 6d Registered Letter stamps (one imperforate and two perforated), a useful run of the subsequent 1860–63 perforated issues also to 1sh, including a striking 6d showing a vertical pre-printing paper fold and an 8d with diagonal SPECIMEN overprint, continuing with a good selection of later 1870s–1890s printings with numerous distinct and minor shade varieties chosen by the collector, especially among the lower denominations, noting in particular the 1885 10sh mauve overprinted POSTAGE in blue (heavily cancelled) and a fine 1888 20s cobalt blue, together with useful back-of-the-book material including perforated and overprinted O.S. 1060			Tasmania, 1853–1913, powerful classic collection, mostly used, neatly mounted on black quadrille pages and identified by the collector per Stanley Gibbons, beginning with the earliest issues including an two 1853 1d blue used, one with margins clear to ample on three sides, the other largely into the outer framelines, three distinct shades of the 1853 2d used with margins touched on one or more sides, 1856–67 Chalon imperforates largely cut close or into the design on one or more sides but comprising over two dozen mostly used singles largely from later printings with an attractive range of shades, noting a striking unused 1d carmine double impression and a small number of unused 1857–67 1d and 2d examples, followed by a further selection of the 1858–70 issues including 1sh (x4) and 6d (x4) used, all in different shades, a similarly strong showing of the subsequent perforated Chalons with a few dozen examples to the shilling value including many unused and numerous scarcer shades, a useful range of the later Sideface issues also collected for listed and unlisted shade varieties, later items of note including an 1897 5sh lilac and red and shade varieties of the 1899–1900 Pictorials, typical faults present particularly among the earliest issues with many unused examples without gum as commonly encountered, overall a high-cataloguing solid foundation for a specialised study of this period, particularly of the popular Chalon issues, mostly fine or better. 1073			Austria, 1850s onward, powerful largely classic-period collection, mint and used, neatly mounted on annotated pages and identified per a long-used Netto catalogue, assembled with close attention to printings, shades and papers, beginning with the 1850–54 Coat of Arms issues comprising twenty-nine examples from 1kr to 9kr, the great majority four-margined and showing a broad range of shades and cancellations; followed by an extensive group of Vienna Philatelic Exhibition reprints; the 1858–59 and 1860–61 Franz Josef definitives represented with the same analytical approach, including a pleasing 3kr black and 5kr red with bold red cancellations, with many unused 1858–59 Type II examples appearing to be reprints perforated other than 14½; continuing with several dozen examples of the 1863 Coat of Arms and 1867 and 1874–84 Franz Josef issues displaying numerous listed and unlisted shades with both coarse and fine printings present; this treatment extending to the 1867 Soldi issues of the Austrian Levant, including many bright shades and over a dozen examples with coloured cancellations; later material including the 1899–1907 Franz Josef definitives, often in both mint and used with types both with and without varnish bars, and the 1908–13 60th Anniversary of the Reign commemoratives in fresh mint singles.
