352 cover C4 imageA SOUGHT AFTER WORLD AIRMAIL RARITY

1927 (May 20), ‘De Pinedo’ 60c black on cover to London, the stamp affixed upside down and tied by St. John’s machine cancellation with Trepassey split-ring (21 May) below, addressed to the High Commissioner for Newfoundland in London, reverse with Roma Centro machine arrival (22 Jun), with typed letter on Dominion of Newfoundland / High Commissioner's Offices letterhead signed by the High Commissioner, Captain Victor Gordon, indicating that he is returning the flown cover, the stamp quite well-centred, a desirable airmail rarity from this iconic flight, signed Calves, with 1994 Enzo Diena certificate.

One of approximately 225 envelopes bearing the special De Pinedo stamp carried on the historic 1927 transatlantic flight of Marchese Francesco de Pinedo aboard the Santa Maria II, linking Newfoundland with Italy in one of the most celebrated long-distance flights of the inter-war period.
