British Commonwealth -- Collections & Accumulations
LotNo. Symbol Cat No. Lot Description
1081 O/og   image1880s/1990s, British Commonwealth used dealer stock, in a dozen binders or stock books, including more than 400 manila stock pages, nearly every British colony represented here from Antigua to Virgin Islands and all points in between, a large proportion of the material from more than three dozen colonies, early to mid-20th century well identified, with reasonable duplication throughout, no one country dominates the lot, but we note South Africa, India and Ireland by volume to be comparatively well represented, many George V, George VI and QEII sets throughout in quality used condition but there is mint hinged also, unchecked for varieties by us, owner's estimated Scott c.v. is $20,000 or more, condition mixed as to be expected but fine to very fine overall, inspection recommended; online photos show a sampling. 1083 O/og/nh   image1880s/1950s, mostly George VI mint collection, in black mounts in a lovely gilt-edged Oriel album, with many never hinged, mostly covering the reign of George VI, with some items stretching back to 1841 Great Britain (Penny Reds (x2) and a Two Penny Blue, all three with full margins, the Great Britain mostly singles, while the Commonwealth countries feature many full sets, up to the high denominations, good coverage for Bermuda, Bahamas, Falkland Islands, Northern Rhodesia, Leeward Islands, New Zealand, Australia and Nyasaland, an ideal opportunity to fill in missing sets or to upgrade quality of an existing collection, with high catalogue value and surely worth our low estimate for the collector or reseller, overall very fine. 1084 O/og/nh   image1880s/2000s, large accumulation mint and used British Commonwealth, in 10,000 or more 102 cards in seventeen dealer red boxes, with over 100 Commonwealth countries (no Canada or Great Britain, the latter being offered elsewhere in this sale), a sampling showed accurate descriptions and good organization, often beginning with early issues and in some areas running to the early 2000s, with a focus on 20th century, roughly 2/3 of the material appears used, but still with a notable quantity of mint both hinged and never hinged, duplication less than commonly seen in such holdings, overall strength in Australia and Australian States, Barbados, Bermuda, Hong Kong and New Zealand, condition mixed in the earlier material, with some tobacco odor, still much being fine, with the owner's catalogue value in the tens of thousands of dollars; online photos show all of the red boxes along with some of the better material.
