Straits Settlements
LotNo. Symbol Cat No. Lot Description
1327 og 46/252 imageOld Time Collection of Mint Straits Settlements, 1892-1938, a lovely collection displaying rich and vibrant colours not often seen in these issues. The collection consists of roughly 170 stamps (including a few used and never hinged), on hand written old style quadrille pages. The collection begins with a small selection of mint and used Victorian issues, with primarily mint onward. A few of the highlights include Scott #s: 93/103 (#103 n.h., c.v. $251 total), 105-108 (c.v. $86 total), 109/134 (c.v. $585 total), 179/201 (#201 n.h., c.v. $215 total), 217-234 (#230-234 n.h., c.v. $243 total), 238/252 (c.v. $195 total). All pages scanned online. A cursory check indicated stamps are lightly hinged onto pages, leaving a few with little to no hinge traces once removed. A visually stunning collection, overall fine to very fine. From the estate of a collector who stopped collecting during World War II, and whose albums have not been opened until now. 1330 O/og/nh   imageLarge Switzerland Mint and Used Collection and Accumulation, 1854-2012, including semi-postals, officials and other back-of-the-book, filling 2 stockbooks. All time periods are well represented across all types of stamps in this lot, and noteworthy items are too numerous to all be mentioned. We do note 34 used imperforate "Seated Helvetia" Scott 14-40, 64 used and 44 mint perforated "Seated Helvetia" 41-68 and about 80 mint and used copies of the "Standing Helvetia" sets. We only note a used group of 89-93 (c.v. $914) though we saw at least a dozen of stamps valued $100 and more in Scott in this early group. We saw a complete 1945 Pax set cancelled with defacing parallel bars (c.v. $806) and another partial used set of the high values (c.v. $723) and a mint 185 (c.v. $275). Semi-postals run from B1 to B750, some mint, some used, many in both conditions, including numerous souvenir sheets and used blocks of 4. We saw mint and used B3-4 (c.v. $177), mnh pairs and used singles B4-6 (c.v. $466), mnh and used B7-11 (c.v. $317), mint and used B116 (c.v. $400), used B105 (c.v. $500) and much more. Airmails C1 and C2 are represented with mnh pairs and a mint set (c.v. $842) and a used C1 forgery. Lets not forget the Postage Dues, possibly holding surprises and the large group of mint and used officials including mint 1O1-8 (no #3) (c.v. $522), 2 mint sets 1O9-16 (c.v. $360), used 2O30 and 3O24 (c.v. $287). Finally, we counted over 720CHF (CAD $950) of recent mint valid for postage (from the early 1960s to 2012). Inspect to convince yourself that our estimate of $3,500 is very conservative. Mostly very fine, faults in earlier material.
