With all-over advertising from Robert Evans Seeds on front, with a detailed illustration of their headquarters on reverse, showing horse drawn carriages, etc. Very light toning on parts of the stamp, and opening fault on back flap, still very fine and with great eye appeal. 1202 CVR 41 image1893 3c SQ Dead Letter Cover to California, mailed from Montréal on FEB.27 (1893) to the USS Ranger, off the coast of San Francisco, California, endorsed "c/o Navy Pay Office", arrived MAR.6 (receiver c.d.s.) then Vallejo later in the same day (fancy cork duplex on back) where it received two oval handstamps in purple reading ADVERTIZED and UNCLAIMED. Address crossed off and handstamp added reading "U.S. Navy Yard / Mare Island, Cal.", with Vallejo, Cal redirecting duplex dated MAR.31. There is also a notation which appears to read "Desiesed" [sic}. Cover ended up in the US DLO on APR.11, then back to Canadian D.L.O. with three different D.L.O. postmarks on back, dating between APR.22 and MAY.2.1893. 1203 CVR 43 var image1897 6c Red Brown Small Queen Diagonal Half Used on Cover, mailed from Bishop's Crossing, Qué. (JUN.17.1897 free strike despatch) to Richmond, Qué. (next day receiver on back) and franked with a bisected 6c red brown Small Queen (to pay for the 3c domestic rate), tied by two fancy cork cancels, slightly trimmed at left, very fine. Unlisted in Unitrade on this Second Ottawa printing (only #39a is listed). From a recent find of a Small Queen collection which has not been seen since the early 1980s.

1204 PC 52, 78, 86b image1899 Illustrated Private Postcard Mailed Registered to Austria, a privately produced U.P.U. picture post card mailed from Québec City on SEP.4.1899 to Vienna, Austria, through London, England (SEP.13 oval registration datestamp), franked with a 2c Jubilee, 2c Map and 3c Numeral, paying the 2c U.P.U. rate plus registration. The back shows a watercolour-style "Canadian Sports" illustration of "hockey" and "sleigh driving" by the Toronto Litho. Co. Ltd. 1205 PC 68, 75 image1898 Private Post Card Mailed to Smyrna, Turkey at 5c Letter Rate, a lovely (first we've seen) private post card depicting "Niagara River Line" patriotic colour picture on front, and five various Niagara Falls pictures on back (published by "Semple & Luke, Originators, Toronto"), mailed from Spadina Avenue Toronto on NOV.7.1898 to Smyrna, Turkey, with British Post Office / Smyrna NOV.24 receiver on front. The card was franked with a total of 5c in stamps, paying the letter rate, as private post cards were not accepted at the time. A lovely card, with only a few negligible nicks. 1206 CVR 74-79 imageGroup of Roughly 80 Numeral Covers, 1899-1902, in a small box, with the majority from Ontario, with a few examples from Québec, New Brunswick and Manitoba. We note a variety of postmarks including: flags, machine cancels, broken circles (including smaller towns), duplex, c.d.s, along a few registration rates, and corner cards (a few illustrated). The lot also includes roughly 20 fronts (not included in our count), of mostly illustrated and registered covers, and a patriotic postcard. Online photos shows an overview of the lot. We note small faults including corner wear and a few tears. Overall fine to very fine.

1207 PC 75 image1898 1c Private Picture Post Card to Italy, Postage Due, mailed from Montréal to Milan, Italy, franked with a 1c QV Numeral, shortpaid and therefore taxed 10 centimes, equal to 15 centesimi, with a 5c and a 10c (faulty) postage dues applied. 1209 PC 77 image1903 2c Picture Postcard Mailed to Turkey, with Postage Due Applied, a picture postcard depicting "A Moki Indian Cigarette Smoker", mailed from Québec City on MAY.11.1903 (duplex tying 2c Numeral stamp on picture side), addressed to Constantinople, Kadi Keng, Turkey. The card arrived on MAY.25, with "Constantinople / Galata / Arrivées" and "British Post Office / Constantinople" c.d.s. receivers, as well as two Turkish "Kadikeui" receivers in Arabic. We note a blue crayon "15", a "3D / F.B." handstamp and a "T15" hexagonal handstamp, and finally a 3 Paras Postage Due (Scott J44) stamp applied and cancelled in Arabic pencil. Roughly 45 covers are pilot signed with notable signatures from: W.R. "Wop" May, Roy Brown, A. McMullen, U.S. Wagner, R.F. George and W.E. Catton. Most of the covers are franked with C3, C5 and C6 airmail stamps. Also included is a second binder with roughly 38 non air-mail covers, primarily from Canada and Great Britain (we note a mixture of commercial mail, flight covers and first day covers), including a 1900 Boer War envelope, franked GB 1p with NOV.13.00. Field Post Office strike, along with "Canadian Contingent NOV. 27.1900. South Africa" oval handstamp on front, addressed to White Wood, ASSA, N.W.T., with a faint DEC.27.00. White Wood, ASSA, c.d.s receiver on back. We note a few first flight covers have small corner bends, along with small faults and bends on covers housed in the second binder. We note two unlisted CL40 Western Canada covers (Pickle Lake and Cat Lake destinations) both with company 5-line Allen Water (MAR.21.1929) company cancel on both CL40 stamps at the back. The lot also includes CL49 (JUL.23.1930) first flight (A.A.M.S. Vol. 4, c.v. $250), CL42 (x3), CL47 (x2), and CL48 (x4). The lot continues with first flight covers ranging from 1928 to 1938, with the majority in the 1930 to 1935 range. We note C1, C3-C5 frankings and includes a few better flights (cataloguing $10 and up), and a few pilot signed covers. 1217 CVR   image1933 Columbia Complimentary Flight to Toronto, Canada, the new catalogue erroneously states the flight was to Montréal, but the cachet and postmarks clearly indicate it went to Toronto on July 15th 1933. The Columbia flew to Haiti and back from New York, and then up to Canada. The pilot was J. Erroll Boyd and co-pilot was Robert G. Lyon, and both signatures are present. A very fine and rare cover.

The lot continues with primarily first flight covers including the first government air mail from Rolling Portage to Red Lake (JAN.26.1928) and a first flight from Wabowden, Manitoba to Cross Lake (MAY.4.1929, c.v. $50).
