623 CVR   image1918 Toronto to Bahamas Special Delivery Cover, mailed at Toronto JUN.25.1918 and franked with a 2c + 1c War Tax Admiral, plus a Bahamas 5d Queen's Staircase (E1) single, addressed to Nassau Bahamas. Admiral is tied by a Toronto Exhibition slogan machine and the Bahamas stamp (slightly sulphuretted) is additionally cancelled with a Nassau c.d.s. plus two other free strikes front and back. Back also shows a Manseau QUE broken circle dated JUN.26 (cover was undoubtedly mis-sent there). During a short period, Bahamas Special Delivery stamps were sold in Ottawa, Toronto, Westmount (Montréal) and Winnipeg post offices and could be used on mail destined there, and cancelled upon arrival. Very fine, ex Dr. Bruce Nesbitt.

Vertical crease affecting one stamp, still unusual and scarce.

Noted a Toronto precursor, Type I cancels from Brockville, Dutton, Grimsby, London, London East, Ottawa and St Ann's (RF 50, x7, 5 roughly opened at top, includes scarcer strikes from 1900 and 1901). There are also 44 different Type II cancels, including RF 25 and higher cancels from Alma, Glencoe, Lanark, Lucknow, Roseneath, Stirling, Strathroy, Tara, Waterford, Williamstown and Wooler. Strikes vary in clarity, with some faint, some partial, etc. still overall quality is fine to very fine, with the usual small faults (a Merrickville on front was not counted).
