1860 Rare
Registered Cents Issue Cover, mailed from Toronto (date not readable) to Hamilton with a DEC.8.1860 receiver on back. The orange cover is franked with a horizontal pair of the deep rose 1c Queen Victoria perforated 11¾, paying only the 2c
registration rate, as the 5c domestic letter rate would have presumably been paid in cash, very fine. The Firby census records only 2 such frankings, thus very rare. Illustrated in Harrison et al. Canada's Registered Mail 1802-1909 on page 55
and Harrison Canada's Registry System: 1827-1911. Ex Daniel Cantor and accompanied by a Greene Foundation certificate. An important item for the registration or Cents issue collector. (Scan 1)
