465   imageRare 1885 "Canadian Voyageurs" Nile Expedition Document, an officially printed document stating in part "The Voyageurs are informed that the following arrangements have been made to enable them to see Cairo and the Pyramids at the expense of Her Majesty's Government. The expense has been sanctioned by the Commander-in-Chief of the Expedition in consideration of the excellent service performed by the Voyageurs in the Sudan, in that they have so largely contributed to the success of the present campaign for the relief of General Gordon". The document goes on instructing how the trip will be handled, with a time line of events, what will be furnished, etc. A most fascinating document, with major staining and tape repairs, still extremely rare.

468 CVR   image1857 Stampless Hotel Advertising Cover, mailed from Montreal on AUG.3.1857 to Indianapolis, Indiana through Windsor (AUG.5 backstamp), unusually rated both with "6" and a "CANADA 10" handstamps. The cover has a nice oval cameo Ottawa Hotel corner advertising corner card, and still has its neatly written 2 page letter to a sister, describing his trip to Montreal through Niagara Falls, etc. The cover has opening tears and creases, still fine and interesting.

471 CVR   image1853 Hudson's Bay House Cover to the Reverend Smithurst, mailed from London England on APR.22.1853 (endorsed "By Mail Steamer of 23 April") to the Reverend John Smithurst in Niagara CW, where it was received on MAY.7, and then forwarded to Elora CW where it arrived on MAY.9. The letter inside is a long 2-page one and discusses the improvements recently made in Canada, including the building of the Grand Trunk Railroad and investment of "a few hundreds of my own means" in it. 472 CVR   image1849 Stampless Folded Printed Circular to Dublin, Forwarded to Barbados, mailed from Montréal on JUN.23.1849 to Dublin with JUL.11 receivers. The back also shows a B and E Crown cancel dated JUL.14. The folded printed circular (from City Bank) was then forwarded to Barbados, with an old spelling "Barbadoes" receiver dated AUG.7.1849. 476 PC   image1894 1c Uprated Stationery Card to Batavia, Netherlands India, mailed from Spadina Ave. Toronto on JUN.15.1894 to Batavia, through Weltevreden (JUL.26) and London, uprated with a 1c Small Queen to pay the required 2c rate. The card is from the Meteorological Service of Canada acknowledging receipt of the weather data sent to them earlier from the East Indian Archipelago in Batavia. Bit soiled and has small glue spots on back, still a better destination.

480 PC   image1899 1c QV Leaf Stationery Card to Sierra Leone, then to Senegal and Redirected to Switzerland, mailed from Middleton NS (datelined DEC.30.1898) to Freetown Sierra Leone with JAN.28,1899 receiver on front. The card was then sent to Senegal (two FEB.16 receivers on back) where two 5c Senegalese stamps were affixed to have it forwarded to Lausanne Switzerland where it arrived on APR.15.
