1585 O/og/nh Russia and Area imageRussia and Area Valuable and Extensive Collection of Early issues, from 1858 to about the mid-1950s, with about 2,000 stamps in three stockbooks (one with used, one with mint and one with Ukraine), about 2/3 of which are mint, the rest used. All the stamps are represented with between 1 and dozens of examples, but for the used we note a good range of postmarks, many with town or complete dates, not to mention all of the shade and other possible varieties including imperforates. The used stockbook starts with 9 pages full of various Coat of Arms issues, with various perforations, designs, shades, horizontal or vertical laid papers, watermarked or not, etc. Some issues of note are #3 (x4, $1,700 each), #4 ($2,500), #39 (x3, $625 each), #40 ($675), etc. The next 6 pages have mostly commemorative and definitive issues, including semi-postals and air mails. The last page contains dozens of Coats of Arm which appear to have been used in Finland. The mint stockbook contains 5 pages of various Coats of Arms, with values as high as $45 each. The rest is composed of various Russian issues, noting a #344 (appears to be the rare perf. 12.5 and if so catalogues $4,250), Offices in the Turkish Empire, 1917-19 Locals, Northern Army issues, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, South Russia, Batum, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, etc. A smaller stockbook contains early mint Ukraine in 14 pages. There are also a few extra items, such as a never hinged part sheet of 50 of Russia Scott #76a (cat. $125), a cover mailed from the US Embassy in Russia in 1948, and a few album pages with dozens more various stamps. A very interesting collection, ideal for the specialist, with overall nice quality but with some faults noted on some of the earlier issues. The collection is accompanied by a 135 page (double-sided = 270 pages) complete and detailed evaluation done in 2019 by the Ukranian Ministry of Justice Kiyv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise. All pages of the collection are scanned in our online Gallery to show the large variety of interesting material included.
