986 E/P U25, U27, U30 imageSet of King George V Stationery Press Proof Sheets, with twelve 17 x 22 inch sheets, plus four 8½ x 10 buff-coloured Manila pages. There is a pencil notation on the Kraft paper cover reading "Press Proofs / B.B. Note Co. / Die Embossed Plates / 1/2/1923". Each of the larger sheets has twenty embossed postal impressions featuring King George V facing left, spaced approximately 3 3/4 inches apart, with the appropriate coloured numbers (orange, green and brown) just below each inked impression (numbered 1 to 20), and there are also some albino embossed impressions on other sheets. The impressions are of the heavily embossed dies used in preparation of the 1c orange, 2c green and 3c brown stationery envelopes (Unitrade U25, 27 30, Webb EN26, 28 and 31). The contents are as follows: page 1-2 (1c orange fully embossed), page 3-4 (1c complete albino impressions with no numbers), page 5-6 (2c green fully embossed), page 7-8 (2c fully ebossed with no numbers), page 9-10 (3c brown fully embossed), page 11-12 (complete albino impressions with no numbers) and the four smaller pages contain colour and albino impressions of the 3c brown. These pages have been stored rolled tightly, and would benefit from being carefully flattened-out, as they have become brittle with time. A very rare and perhaps unique find. First mailed OCT.22.1946 "c/o Shell Oil Agent, Aden, Arabia" with Aden c.d.s. (NOV.21.1946) then redirected to Shanghai, China (MAR.20.1947 c.d.s.), then back to NB (JUN.6.1947 receiver) with note "not known by Canadian Trade Commissioner, please return to sender" and "NOT SHELL", etc. Second cover mailed on DEC.26.1946 "c/o Port Said & Suez Cola Co., Port Said, Egypt" with JAN.5.1947 c.d.s., then redirected to Genoa, Italy. 990 CVR   imageExtensive WWII Romantic Correspondence Between an RCMP Constable John Dean Dunbar and Fiancée (Later Wife) Rhoda B. Parlow, housed in large box. Many hundreds of stamped envelopes (with original contents), about two-thirds written by Dunbar (mostly from Western Canada) and one-third written to Dunbar, plus about 35 miscellaneous letters to the Dunbars after their marriage. Of particular historical interest are the letters written by Dunbar from Quebec City while he was attached to the RCMP security detachment at the First Quebec Conference (August 17-24, 1943) which involved Prime Minister MacKenzie King, President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Eight of these envelopes have blacked out postal date stamps. Sadly, Sgt. Dunbar died in 1957 at the young age of 42 and he is buried in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa. Also includes related details.
