vermilion Beaver with "Split Beaver" Variety on Cover, a very clearly visible example of this interesting variety (from position 90), on an orange cover to Toronto (receiver on back), stamp is tied by a London duplex dated SEP.30.1863. Whitworth
lists the earliest date for this variety as being OCT.24.1863, and so this is a new earliest known date for it. Opening faults at top do not detract, fine and accompanied by a 2017 Greene Foundation certificate. Rsv. (Scan a)

chocolate brown Consort on Cover, mailed from Lyn UC (SEP.5.1859) double broken circle) to Jericho, Long Island, New York. The stamp (with tiny tear at left) is tied to this yellow cover by a large "MONT & KINGS. GD. TRK. R. W. POST OFFICE No.
2." cds (Ludlow type 5C, RF 475) dated same day as despatch, with additional complete strike on back. Back also has a transit Prescott datestamp dated SEP.5. Front shows a red "Ogdensburg NY 10 Paid" datestamp dated SEP.7 and a "CANADA" in arc. A
lovely cover, slightly reduced at top right, and with stain on front and accompanied by a 2018 Greene Foundation certificate stating that the stamp is "misperforated at top and bottom". (Scan a)
