Postal Stamps and Postal History Public Auction - September 24, 2020

Harmers’ highly anticipated 24 September sale will be lead by a lot composed of a Penny Black and a Two Pence blue, both from plate 1B with “matching pair” inscription on page border (estimate £60,000-70,000). Other highlights include an unpublished essay from the Treasury competition designed by James Chalmers, likely a unique piece (estimate £30,000-35,000); a legendary airmail cover from Italo Balbo’s 1933 return transatlantic flight, franked with an American “3 Cents” stamp in addition to the Italian commemorative “Triptych” dedicated to the crossing (estimate £10,000-12,000); and a very rare complete sheet of 20 Postal Union Congress £1 black from 1929 (estimate £7,500-10,000).
