7 imageLIVERPOOL TO PHILADELPHIA, Complete folded letter date-lined 27 Oct 1812 , making reference to the U.S.S. Constitution vs HMS Guerriere battle on August 19th where she attained the famous name 'OLD Ironsides" We quote, "…. We have a heard of the Capture of the Guerriere Frigate which I think must have been a well-fought action, also the surrender of the brave General Hull who I think deserves nothing more merciful than a good tarring and feathering for his conduct." The rest has to do with selling watches. We think the author, Lewis Vernon, got it wrong with the reference to Hull. The letter was hand carried .
