newspaper ad dated Feb 1 "1658" (a misprint) advertising connection of Wilton's Express with F.W. Blake at Weaver rnrnFrancis Wheeler Blake arrived in California in 1852 and in the fall of that year found employment as the agent in Weaverville for
Rhodes & Lusk. By September 1855, Rhodes & Lusk evolved into Rhodes & Co. and about this time, Blake left the firm and formed F.W. Blake & Co's Banking and Express, initially based at Shasta City. In October he switched his base to Weaverville with a
terminus at Shasta. While advertising that he connected with both Wells Fargo and Pacific Express at Shasta, he was closely aligned with Wells Fargo. (Image 1)
