Letters were carried by daily stage to Scott then by railroad to the destination post offices. rnGlen Haven NY was a summer resort at the southern edge of Lake Skaneateles and in the mid-late 19th century was headquarters for a "Water Cure" health resort and an 1857 brochure described the healing properties and listed Harriet Austin as one of the attending physicians. As a side note, Harriet Austin was secretary of the National Dress Reform Association which, as the name suggests, encouraged reform of women's dress, especially long skirts, tight waists and modes incompatible with the refined taste of the day.
