An impressive assemblage of the Yugoslavia forerunners for Croatia-Slavonia, with around 2000 stamps housed in a large volume, with a plethora of inverted overprints and other errors through to the unoverprinted issues of 1918/1919 and the back of the book including unusual savings fund stamps overprinted but not issued. There are inverted overprints in multiple format on virtually every issue as well as many double and misplaced o/ps, wrong overprint types including on multiples. Highlights in the regular stamps include the o/ps on types of 1916 10f violet and 15f red mint x2 and used (#2L3/2L4), then the issue 10f rose with white numerals mint (#2L4A) and the 15f violet mint x6 and used (#2L5). Then the issues of 1916/18 inc. 50f parliament building pair mint (#2L16) with wrong o/p type sideways, similarly the 80f green (#2L18) with cartwheel type o/p sideways on corner block of six, followed by the Charles and Zita types inc. 20f brown (#2L25) with blue o/p inverted and double o/p of blue and black together, 25f blue (#2L26) corner block of 25 with inverted o/ps, blue and red o/ps doubled, etc. An exciting study of the Freedom of Croatia-Slavonia series follows, with 10f rose double impression block of 25 (#2L28), block of 4 with upper stamps having cliche "25" instead of "10" se-tenant with normal lower stamps, 10f proofs in violet and green perf and imperf, with a similar range on the other denominations inc. 20f and 45f rose se-tenant pair imperf, 25f blue side-margin imperf block of 6, thru to 45f (#2L31) mint and used x4, imperf, imperf double impression pair and proofs in red and violet, etc, followed by the allegory of freedom, youth with standard and falcon types of 1919 with at least three full sets of imperfs including distinct shades on every denomination, as well as the 10f red with two imperf double impressions both expertised by Ercegovic, etc. Then the back of the book with many further errors on semi-postals, special delivery, newspaper stamps and postage dues inc. 1f with double o/p one inverted, signed (#2LJ2a var), 2f issues with values in black with 2 of 3 signed, inverted o/ps on 10f used on piece, signed, 12f mint, signed twice, 20f mint block of 4, 30f, etc, then the 50f green and black with two mint examples expertised by Ercegovic, as well as 5f and 6f denominations prepared for use but not issued. There is also some attractive postal history including overprinted postal stationery unused and used, a cover with 16 different issues of the overprinted Hungarian stamps used in Zagreb and another colorful registered cover with the later allegory issues complete. This is a wonderful collection for the specialist of this area and must be seen to be appreciated, as there is so much unusual material.
A highly specialised collection of the SHS overprints for Yugoslavia forerunner issues for Croatia-Slavonia, loaded with errors and varieties with lots of certificates from the foremost experts. Highlights include the white numerals with scarce 10f rose used on piece accompanied by Ercegovic cert, 15f mint never hinged single and top margin block of four also again both with Ercegovic certs, 15f double o/p mint, signed twice and with Zrinjscak cert, 15f superb used with Marjanovic certificate and the 15f with 10f Zita and 15f Charles used together on piece accompanied by Ercegovic cert. The Charles and Zita issues continue with the two issues mint and used, the former with Zrinjscak cert and the latter both signed Schlenger, followed by mint never hinged pairs with Ercegovic cert. On the other issues there are many errors including a study of inverted o/ps with two examples on the 15f white numerals, both signed and one with Ercegovic cert for this and five other inverts to the 5kr parliament building mint never hinged, with another certificate for invert blocks of four on the 5f, 6f and 35f reapers. The constant varieties of the overprints are also studied with many on large pieces of stationery and on covers, as well as multiples. Further postally used material has combinations of SHS o/ps and Austrian stamps, as well as 1919 issues specifically for Croatia-Slavonia including a spectacular usage of a block of 38 of the 1k carmine rose falcon on telegram form. Another telegram form has more inc two blocks of 20 of the SHS o/p on 10f scarlet Charles, together with a strip of 10 of the Hungary 10f violet brown postal savings stamp. Other unusual material includes a survey of the speculative SHS overprints including vertical o/ps on parliament building high values, the SHS o/ps on Hungarian semi-postals of 1915 and on the 1917 Archduke Josef war exhibition surcharges on white numerals types, seldom seen and accompanied by Zrinjscak cert, etc. A delightful collector's collection of this much underrated area with far more here than described, a highly recommended viewing. ,(photo) (Image 1)
1941/45, housed on Scott specialty album pages, virtually complete mint with 250 stamps, including scarce issues. The collection begins with the o/ps on Yugoslavia issues complete (#1/29), then the regular issues for Croatia with highlights including first semi-postals gold o/ps mint never hinged (#B1/B2), 1941 costumes semi-postals series in se-tenant strips of three with red-cross labels, through to the storm division souvenir sheet , used on cover (signed Dr Bohne, ,only 2500 souvenir sheets printed of which very few have passed through the mail) this one cancelled by favor the ,9th October 1944 and neatly tied to the cover very collectable and attractive, missing from most collections. The collection continues through the back of the book to the non Scott listed 1945 Spalato surcharges for the Democratic Federation of Yugoslavia complete on regular and postage due series.. A very attractive collector's collection in virtually tip-top quality throughout, a delight to view and describe. (ex-Fletcher Hodges).
Two volume collection of several hundred "kleinbogen", virtually if not all in complete series in pristine mint never hinged condition and organised chronologically from 1951 onwards. The collection begins with an interesting anomaly, the 5k dark blue Julius Fucik in the complete kleinbogen format of ten stamps, canceled, yet without listing in Michel in this format and possibly rare. Then the listed issues with highlights including (mint never hinged unless otherwise stated) 1951 airposts (Mi#678/681, cat. &euro,1200, minor adhesion on back mentioned for accuracy's sake only), 5k Alois Jirasek mint never hinged and used (#687, cat. &euro,1000), 1854 80h walkers (#857, cat. &euro,300), costumes of 1955, '56 and (#921/924, #994/997, #1051/1054, cat. &euro,900), 1958 mushrooms (#1101/1105, cat. &euro,300), 1959 birds (#1163/1169, cat. &euro,250), 1961 butterflies (#1301/1309, cat. &euro,250), etc, through to better later inc. 1979 3k delphinium sheet perf 113/4 (#249A, cat. &euro,250), 1986 artworks with both background types on the 1kc (#2889I/2889II/2893)1897 artworks x2 (#2933/2937), etc, etc. Clearly this holding runs into five figures in Euro with virtually everything in tip-top faultless quality throughout and remarkable as such, with retail that would approach the catalog. A wonderful opportunity for a dealer or collector to buy these elusive issues. ,(photo) (Image 1) (Image 2)
Old-time specialized collection of 1000s of stamps from the first issues to the 1930s, presented systematically and written-up on quadrille pages, representing an old Georg Buhler auction lot from several decades ago. There are well over 1300 of the first castle issues alone, organized issue by issue with different papers including pink and carton papers, studies of the constant plate varieties with many in attractive settings for example the dot after 20 on the imperf 20h bluish green (#4) on center stamp of block of nine used on piece, then many perforation permutations including excellent studies of the private perforations and roulettes, as well as unusual postmarks pointed out, etc. The later issues follow a similar pattern, from the carrier pigeons, freedom breaking chains and agriculture and science thru the Masaryk defins where the collector has attempted to present every variety with each of the four different watermark permutations, including constant plate varieties. ,The collection continues with the se-tenant labels, souvenir sheets and on to airposts, etc. This is a wonderful vintage collector's collection with enormous potential for today's specialist, much more here than described. Please inspect.
A fascinating group of postal history housed in a small volume with many sent from the Czech Expeditionary Forces in far-flung regions, particularly the Far East of Russia, during the later stages of the revolution, , from 1918 through to 1920. The holding includes a wonderful illustrated cover sent from Vladivostok with small color picture of geisha girls on front, similarly a full color postcard again of geishas in a garden, probably from the same area and canceled with the posthorns and thunderbolts field postmark. Then a very attractive and equally scarce card of September 1918 with Tsarist rouble high values tied on 3k red postal stationery tied by violet straight-line handstamps "Cekoslovenske Vojsko - polni posta cis. 4", sent to the Czech agency at Celabinsk. A similar straight-line cachet appears on the address side of a color illustrated propaganda postcard of a soldier with a girl and appropriate poem beneath etc, including other items with various circular postmarks of the Czech forces, all contemporary commercial usages, as well as a little Russian of the period. This is a very appealing range of these hard-to-find items, a most enjoyable viewing.
A comprehensive collection of many hundreds of mostly mint stamps on Scott specialty pages, nearly all one of a kind, with hardly any empty spaces including lots of miniature sheets and kleinbogen. The back of the book is probably the best section, with semi-postals including "posta ceskoslovenska" black o/p on 1k carmine used (#B17) and 2h express stamp used (#B35), then on first postage due types 4h to 25h used (#B41/B44), followed by 1919 lion breaking chains and mother and child issues complete in blocks of four on special illustrated pages promoting war orphan fund, then Sokol and Olympics series complete used (#B137/B143), leading on to the airposts again virtually complete inc. first imperf series mint (#C1/C3), second perf series used (#C4/C6), etc. Also noted is the 10h red brown special delivery on white paper (#E3a), 1939 Carpatho-Ukraine 3k blue mint x2, Slovakia, Eastern Silesia, etc. There does seem to be cancelation by favor periodically, not taking away from the virtual completion of this well filled collection, well worth viewing.
Collection of well over 2000 mint and used stamps housed in two volumes, organized chronologically and predominantly in complete series, often parallel mint and used with no excessive duplication, including se-tenants, souvenir sheets, kleinbogen, back of the book, with some surprisingly good material present. There are for example, over 150 Hradcany first issues, perf and imperf, followed by lots of semi-postal o/ps to 4kr green mint, carrier pigeon tete-beche pairs used, through to the late 1920s, 1930s and 1940s loaded with se-tenant labels, gutter pairs, plate numbers, etc, 1939 Carpatho-Ukraine forerunner mint, 1951 airpost 20k dark brown kleinbogen used, 1952 Bratislava souvenir sheet used, etc. right through to Eastern Silesia inc. 5h postage due with black overprint mint and much more.
Vintage collection of well over 125 19th century locals, mostly used, virtually all one of a kind on ancient Imperial album pages, specifically printed for locals, in itself unusual to find today. Virtually all the towns are represented, including Aalborg to 50o gold and blue, surcharges and imperfs, etc, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Fredericia, Horsens, Kolding, Odense, Randers inc. red instead of black and inverted surcharges, through to Svendborg and Veile both with no empty spaces as well as Viborg. Offered intact as received and with sleepers more than likely, condition occasionally mixed yet clearly an original specialised collection with many superb examples present, please inspect carefully.
Mint and used collection of around 2000 stamps housed in a substantial Scott specialty album, very well-filled with duplication of pages often making parallel mint and used, starting sparingly in 1870 yet with issues virtually complete from the 1879s onwards through to the 20th century. We note 1880 colored roulette and 1881 with network series both complete x2, including the 1p gold on laid paper used (#44a), 1883 surcharges with many types with and without network including 50cts on 10cts rose type c, mint, signed (#79), the 3fr on 75cts ultra unused with extra roulette rows horizontal and vertical, leading on to the early 20th century surcharges and coats of arms types, almost all here. Then virtually no empty spaces through to the 1960s. The back of the book is strong including  ,mint never hinged, airposts, officials, postal tax, etc, etc. Please inspect, page for page, much more here to discover in this well filled album.
Grandfather&rsquo,s collection of over 45 different mint and used stamps on 19th century gold-edged album pages for issues to 1887, virtually all the imperfs are four margined, some sidewalk, starting with an interesting group of classics inc. 1866/67 1/2r black on rose (#9) used and an unused example having the "S" of correos repaired manually hinged and scarce as such, then the 1r black on green unused (#10) with distinct displaced correos in tablet, going outside the frame, then the pelure paper 1/2r black on lavender used (#15) and another 1/2r on pale straw shade mint, followed by the regular  ,paper 1870/73s inc. 1/2r blue on rose mint (#28), a most impressive showing of these early imperf issues. Then follows the perf 1880s coats of arms inc. 1880 plain and 1881 network series complete, followed by surcharges without network including the 1fr on 20cts with comma used (#64a), with network 2.50fr on 50cts orange mint (#84), etc. A wonderful old-time collection formed 80 years ago, with the high likelihood of further finds to be made, especially when studied closely stamp for stamp, a highly recommended viewing.
