284   imageAirmail cover sent from Buenos Aires to England on 16/MAY/1930 via Air France, with Paris transit backstamp of 21/MAY. It bears an interesting franking of $4.02, including the high value of the first airmail issue (GJ.654). The franking corresponds to the postage for a 21-gram letter carried by Air France, with 24c. basic rate + airmail surcharge of 18c. per gram. However the additional airmail charge of 4½c. required for the combination with the European air network WAS OMITTED, so the cover continued to its final destination by surface mail!
