1881 designs of the 25ct, 1r and 10r had the value expressed in the centre of the stamp. Given that the intended use of the stamp was that it should be centrally divided, and that the value once the stamp was divided would often not be readily
visible, it was rapidly decided that the designs be altered to incorporate values at the top and base of the stamps (Image)
