Stamps and Postal History of the World - November 17-18, 2021

Welcome to our Auction 5929 presenting stamps and postal history of the world. In this sale we have distinct areas of huge strength alongside our usual great offering to entice all collectors.

The Gibraltar, GB used Abroad, Airmails and GB Booklets sections are from four distinct collections which we are delighted to offer for sale.

Highlights:

  • Lot 322, 1951 printing of 10/- perf 13, unmounted o.g. imprint block of four with R9/3 broken 'R', well centred and immaculate.
  • Lot 803 - 1920 Ross Smith first flight cover, flown on a Vickers Vimy from England to Australia, with “First Aerial Post” label tied by one of two oval "First Aerial Mail -Received -26 FEB 1920 - Great Britain to Australia" handstamps. Also, three-line handstamp "per/Vickers 'Vimy' Aeroplane/ to Australia" in blue. Addressed to Oxford, England and signed by Smith, RPS cert. (1974), superb, exhibition quality
  • Lot 1200 - 1840 1d Mulready Lettersheet (Forme 1 Stereo A11) addressed to Dublin, centrally cancelled with red MC, with "TP/SOUTHAMPTON" transit mark in black, sr cds "MY-6/1840" on reverse, the first day of issue, and diamond arrival in red for May 7th 1840. Some soiling and opening faults, still an extremely rare early usage.
