Letters from Bishop’s Close / Victoria B.C., a cover mailed from Victoria on NOV.22.1898 (c.d.s. free strike plus a second tying stamp) to P. (Peter) O’Reilly at Point Ellis, Victoria, endorsed “The Bishop of Columbia”. The cover encloses three
letter written by “W.W. Columbia”, two on embossed "Bishops Close / Victoria" stationery (NOV.23 and NOV.26, 1898) plus a third which is datelined “Bishops Close / Victoria B.C. Sept. 12 1898, Private and Confidential” which starts with “… I felt it
my duty to inform you that in a most malicious way certain enemies of Mr. J. W. Laing have brought to light an offence committed by lieu eleven years ago…” and goes on stating facts, etc. All three letters are signed “W.W. Columbia” which stands for
William Wilcox Perrin, who was the second Bishop of British Columbia (from 1893 to 1911). Cover missing backflap, else very fine and scarce. (Scan 1)
