441   imageSpecialized Collection of the 1927-53 6d and 1sh Issues, all mint, includes a page of 6sh “without hyphen” (3 pairs and a block), 6d “with hyphen” (3 pairs and two blocks, Dies I, II and III, one block has one stamp stuck to the page), also one page each of the 1sh printings (with and without hyphen) with Type I (5 different pairs) and Type II and III (4 different pairs and a block of four). A lovely study of these issues, showing different shades, inverted watermarks, an imprint pair etc., all identified using the South African Stamp Colour Catalogue numbers. Mix of hinged and never hinged, overall fresh and very fine. Scott basic #s 25, 29, 59-61, 62, 62c for a total of U$298. Owner’s Stanley Gibbons value of £602. The down set is never hinged and the up set is lightly hinged, also includes the KGV Silver Jubilee set of four, overall very fine. 443 og/nh   imageAdvanced Study of the 1923-1924 King George V South West Africa Overprints, all neatly displayed and described on 7 album pages, with a total of 46 different bilingual pairs, plus a single £1 with 14mm spacing (£250). We note detailed descriptions of the several overprint settings, types, etc., and saw one pair with the “Af.rica” overprint variety. A spot check of many pairs revealed a mix of hinged and never hinged and we saw one pair that was separated, overall very fine. The items are identified by South African Stamp Colour catalogue number, but the owner carefully catalogued the group in Stanley Gibbons at £2,630. A scarce offering of such a detailed study. 447 CVR   imageThree Better Montréal Early Rate Markings, a small drop cover has a "1/2" rate handstamp (year date of despatch is unreadable), a folded printed matter letter to Amherstburg has a "PAID AT MONTREAL / 1" in circle in red (undated) and a APR.30.1864 drop cover has a "1" in circle, which may be a state of an older "1d" with "d" removed to be used in the decimal era. A fine to very fine trio.

We note rates paying for registered, airmail, double or triple weight and other services including special delivery. Destinations include Switzerland, GB, Sweden, Germany, Bermuda, Rhodesia, Pitcairn Islands, Australia, India, France, Greece, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Brazil, Austria, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Hungary, Trinidad and Turkey. There is lots of postmark interest, not to mention rates and much more, noting some postage due, parcel tags, a Christmas gift wrapper mailed to Germany with customs label, a customs declaration label on cover, military uses, and much more. Some have faults, still a great start to an exhibit, just waiting to be studied and mounted.
