1483 og/nh 1/270 imageValuable Mint and Used Newfoundland Collection, 1857-1947, left intact by us, and includes many better valuable items throughout, including most sets complete, etc. The early issues are mixed mint and used (and in some cases both), then becomes mint only in 1897. Ascension
LotNo. Symbol Cat No. Lot Description
1492 O/og/nh   imageCollection of Both Mint and Used Ascension, 1919 to 1972, all neatly written-up on Scott pages, with a parallel collection of mint and used (both). The collection is complete for both from 1922 to 1972, and also includes three KGV GB issues on piece with nice Ascension c.d.s. cancels dated 1919. The used all have clean dated cancels, including oval registration, etc., and we note at least two of the 1922 issue that have "Posted at Sea..." cancels. The variety identified by the collector as "Cleft Rock" on a used 1d we think is not, so has been catalogued as a regular stamp - however, we have identified a variety on the used 1½d "line through C" which is quite clear (SG 12e, £200, but counted as regular). The mint stamps are lightly hinged up to 1953, all never hinged after that. A very fine collection that is simply too beautiful and complete to part out, so sold intact, which should be a wonderful opportunity for an enthusiast of this country. We have scanned the first 17 pages only. A very clean and well displayed stock, consisting of 1966-2011 stamps with a higher than usual proportion of c.d.s. cancels, showing duplication of up to a few dozen of some, and including se-tenant pairs, blocks, etc. A lovely and useful stock, see our photos for a representative sampling. 1495 O   imageCollection / Accumulation of Used Australia Postage Dues, with over 365 stamps displayed on 3 double-sided black stock pages, including several pairs, strips of 3 and 4 and blocks of 4. We also note a good quantity of c.d.s. town cancels and dated stamps, shades, etc. These were found in a scrawny old time small stockbook, and transferred over in the exact same order as the previous owner had them, so having not checked any watermarks or perforations, etc., we cannot attest to the order they are currently in. The last 4 rows of the pages contain stamps that the owner had face side down for some reason unknown to us (perhaps to indicate they required sorting...). The quality is overall fresh and fine or better. All stamps scanned online, should easily be worth our estimate, as the catalogue value should be pretty high.. We note a good variety of material here, including some stamps identified for their printing varieties, shades, perforations, a great many town postmarks, including many socked on the nose strikes (owner was a serious town cancel collector), some Officials, etc. We estimate well over 1,200 stamps in all, a great opportunity for the enthusiast. 1498 O   imageCollection of Used Australia Perforated Officials, with about 150 stamps (of which 5 are overprinted, rest perforated), showing a good variety of issues and denominations, with small, medium and large perforations. Includes several high catalogue stamps, mostly unchecked by us for watermarks, so a few additional surprises may lurk. Overall fine or better, best is to carefully analyze our pictures, which show all the stamps. Should easily be worth our low estimate. (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (Scan 3) (Scan 4) (All Scans)
