1042 og/O   imageAdvanced Collection of Mint and Used Australia Kangaroo Issues, all neatly mounted on 20 quadrille pages in black mounts, with detailed descriptions including S.G. and ASCS catalogue numbers. Quite an extensive study of this issue, with different Dies, inverted watermarks, shades, different watermarks, printing flaws, early usage dates, perforated O.S., and more. We counted (confirmed by a detailed owner's inventory) a total of 134 stamps (10 mint and 124 used), including higher values such as S.G. #s 8 (mint, £110), 12 (£110), 14 (£750), 42 (x3, £120 each), 114 (£800), etc. The owner has catalogued the collection with a 2000 S.G. catalogue which came to £2,668 at the time (24 years ago). A lovely collection, with some duplication (no more than 5 of some) and we also noted postmark interest. Overall better than usual quality, we scanned each page online. 1043 O/og   imageAdvanced Collection of Mint and Used Australia KGV Issues, all neatly mounted on 49 quadrille pages in black mounts, with detailed descriptions including S.G. and ASCS catalogue numbers. Quite an extensive study of this issue, with different Dies, Types, private perfins, inverted watermarks, shades, different watermarks, printing flaws, different perforations, perforated and overprinted O.S., and more. We counted (confirmed by a detailed owner's inventory) a total of 459 stamps (5 mint and 454 used), including higher values such as S.G. #s 22e (£110), 93 (£80), 95b (£50), 89 (£42), O86 (£85), etc. The owner has catalogued the collection with a 2000 S.G. catalogue which came to £1,677 at the time (25 years ago). A lovely collection, with some duplication (up to 16 in some cases) and we also noted good postmark interest. Overall better than usual quality, we only scanned a portion of the collection. The lot begins with roughly 70 mostly different pre-decimal mint singles and sets, including a few postage dues, noting a few single stamps cataloguing in the $5 to $10 range. The bulk of the lot contains mint and or used stamps, sets, partial sets, and a few mint souvenir sheets, gutter strips and more, ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s in album pages and loose material. Face values totals $240 (counting 30c and up only, with the majority ranging from 30c to 65c). The lot also includes Scott #1461D sheetlet of 10, unpriced in Scott, but purchased by the owner in 1996 for U$129. We note a few faults with a few of the early stamps, overall fine to very fine. 1045 O/og/nh 94/1544 imageComprehensive Collection of Mint and Used Australia in 5 Senator Springback Albums, 1927-1995, with many hundreds of stamps, appearing to be organized by Stanley Gibbons numbers (ranging from Scott #94/1544), in 5 springback albums. The collection generally consists of a mint and or used single for most issues up to the early 1970s, along with selections of mint plate blocks (noting imprint blocks from printers John Ash, W.C.G. McCracken, and The Authority Of The Government Of The Commonwealth of Australia), se-tenant and gutter pairs, mint and used booklet panes. coil pairs, and used blocks. Also included are varieties, with notations provided by the owner, indicating various paper types and gum fluorescence, just to name a few. A spot check revealed a few stamps, sets, and souvenir sheets cataloguing $20 and up, noting a mint 5sh Sydney Harbour Bridge (faulty), Scott #M1-7 (M1, M7 are nh, rest mh, c.v.$321 total). Post 1975 material primarily consists of mint never hinged singles, sets, and a few souvenir sheets. Face value totals A$423 (counting 30c and up only, primarily ranging from 45c to $1). A nicely organized collection, ideal for the Australia or Commonwealth collector, overall fine to very fine. 1051 O Victoria imageQuality Collection of 148 Melbourne CDS Postmarks, all dated from 1895 to 1899, neatly organized by cancellation device and time mark, on 23 quadrille pages. The majority of postmarks are single ring types on Scott #s 162 (x54), and 169 (x76), with cancellation devices and time marks ranging from 1A/23Z, along with 10 double-ring thick arc postmarks on Scott #162, with devices ranging from 1/19. We note at least 100 fully dated postmarks, with some beautifully socked on the nose examples. A clean and very fine collection which would have taken a long time to assemble and should appeal to collectors of all stripes. Online photos show the entire collection. We note 72 of the stamps have an additional c.d.s. town postmark, with many socked on the nose. The boxed handstamp was used in lieu of postage due stamps, which were not issued until 1923.
