443 c, entire, etc. imageAustralia: Crash Mail: 1941 (Aug.) envelope to Townsville franked 1d. and 2d. (2) tied by Thursday Island c.d.s. Carried by a DH80A (Airlines of Australia Limited) flight that crashed by Coen Creek (Queensland) following separation of a wing and subsequent loss of control with three fatalities. Some mail was recovered and sent initially to Brisbane where typed labels were affixed (two examples included in this lot) before forwarding to addressee. Rare, just three examples recorded. Photo. Carried on Catalina A24-52 flight to Townsville but crashed into Cleveland Bay upon arrival with thirteen fatalities and six survivors, this the only registered article recovered. (Image1)

Company, New Guinea, franked 4d. tied by Newcastle machine cancellation, typed “DELAYED CORRESPONDENCE/Recovered from/crashed aircraft” label affixed at lower left. Crashed into a mountain (wartime maps inaccurately reporting height by 600 feet) between Jacquinot Bay and Rabaul on Nov. 15 with all 28 aboard killed. The wreck located and mail recovered the following day. This the only recorded example and an important crash cover. Photo. (Image1)

455 c, entire, etc. imageAustralia: Crash Mail: 1949 (June 28) charred airmail envelope to Broome (stamp missing) with large part Hobart machine cancellation, endorsed “Damaged/in/aircrash” and “aeroplane destroyed Guildford July 1949” at lower right. Carried on the “Fitzroy” from Perth airport on July 2 which crashed immediately after take off killing all occupants. Almost 2,000 postal articles were salvaged by a resident near the crash site though this is the only recorded example. Photo. (Image1)

Carried on the Douglas DC6 “Resolution” from Sydney to Vancouver which crashed on approach to San Francisco killing all nineteen occupants. Carried on an Ansett flight which crashed near Winton as a result of engines on fire and loss of a wing with all four occupants killed with a small amount of mail recovered,.
