882 c, entire, etc. imageFalkland Islands: 1942 First Official Airmail Acceptance to the Falkland Islands, (Sept. 25) postcard from Norman Hill in Rotherham, one of five addressed to the Postmaster in Stanley (with request for return) franked G.B. 7d. and 1s. paying 1s.7d. ‘All the Way’ airmail postcard rate. with airmail etiquette and backstamped Oct. 16 arrival, having been carried by air across the North Atlantic and then on to Montevideo but thence by sea on the “Fitzroy” for the final leg; 1945 envelope sent from Musselburgh, Scotland franked 1/2d., 1d., addressed to “3065292/Pte. A. Lambert/Falkland Islands Forces/F.I.” but undelivered, showing boxed “BELIEVED RETURNED TO/UNITED KINGDOM. PRESENT/ADDRESS UNKNOWN. RETURN/TO SENDER” in violet and dumb barred “ARMY/POST OFFICE” oval, unusual. On May 22 1945 the S.S. “Highland Princess” had arrived to return all of Force 132 to the UK and this cover would have arrived on the “Fitzroy” on May 24. (2 items) (Image1)
