Very important insight into the capture of Malta by Napoleon, mostly fine. March 1798, he served under General Guillaume Brune in the invasion of Switzerland.[3] At the end of the campaign, he was promoted to brigade general and was given the honor of presenting the flags captured from the enemy to the Directory.[3][5] Although designated to take part in the expedition to Egypt, Brune kept Suchet’s services and appointed him his chief of staff in the Army of Italy. 51 c, entire, etc. imageMalta: Early Letters and Documents: 1798 (June 18) Order (small faults) handwritten by Napoleon Bonaparte at Malta to General Dommartin on French Republic letterhead with remarkable content “I do not intend the frigate ‘La Sensible’ should leave this port until it has been supplied at the arsenal with the quantity of powder and canon balls of 12, calculated on the basis of 60 shots per gun. I ask you to implement these orders because the frigate is waiting to take the supplies on board in order to set sail.”, mostly fine and with a “BIBLIOTECA/LINDESIANA” mark at lower right. ‘La Sensible’ was to carry fine items (bronzes, paintings, silks and banners etc.) looted by the French in Malta back to France and therefore of considerable interest to Napoleon. Important insight into the French capture of Malta and an exhibition centrepiece. Exceptional rarity being one of only three examples of mail composed by Napoleon during the week he was in Malta en route to Egypt, believed to exist. Ex Coates. Photo. (Image1)
