355 On piece, front, etc. imageMalta: Postage Due: Outward Mail: 1861 envelope front and rear flap to England, backed for display, endorsed “via Marseilles” and dated “July 18th” with further note “Just starting for Tyre” and bearing France 1853-61 20c., good to large margins, and 40c. cut-into. The adhesives tied by “A25” duplex and believed to have originated at the French P.O. in Beyrout, subsequently cancelled in Malta as a missorted, missent article. Showing rare “PACKET LETTER NOT ORIGINATING/IN MALTA. FORWARDED/CHARGED WITH POSTAGE” mark, this the earliest example recorded, over Torquay arrival c.d.s., with red “MORE/TO/PAY” in circle, manuscript “6”(d) arrival charge and receiver’s note “Thursday morning/August 1st/61”.
