712 c, entire, etc. imageFalkland Islands: 1894 (May 15) ‘Schlottfeldt’ envelope to U.S.A. franked slightly oxidised 6d. orange-yellow cancelled by Bainbridge cork (Ob. 2/940 with slightly indistinct type F.2 c.d.s. alongside overstruck by fine “(crown)/REGISTERED” mark, London June 21 oval transit below, backstamped New York July 1 and next day Cincinnati arrival. With enclosed fascinating full autograph letter from Schlottfeldt dated May 1 and stating prices for older issues, the addressee’s enquiry having been forwarded to him by “the Postmaster, who cannot be troubled by such orders . . . The stamps at present in use can only be obtained at cost price in the P.O., because there hardly exists any Inland Postal Service on these Island and all the used stamps leave the Colony on the letters.” Photo.
