1865 COVER FROM A SMALL FRONTIER TOWN TO IRELAND: Dec. 1864 env. (flap missing, slightly soiled) ex Clermont "Via Marseilles" to Dublin franked 1862-67 rough perf. 13 2d blue Chalon Head strip of 5 + single = 12d (SG 23) lightly tied by faint "29" numeral cancellations of Clermont. "JA. 1/18[65]" Rockhampton & "[J]A. 6/[186]5" Brisbane cds's on back along with "HK PACKET/A/MR 16/5/1865", and faint red London "PAID" cds of Mar. 16 on front. At this time the rate to the UK via Marseille was 10d for ½ ounce. Attractive item. Note: Clermont was a small frontier/outback town and a scarce point of origin, it was only founded in c.1864.....
