1068 imagePostal history. Madeira. 1808. Letter sent from London on 25.2.1808, directly to Funchal “for the care of Captain Reckford of the ship Lord Nelson”. Upon arriving in Funchal on 9.5, the postage was charged at 20 reis (corresponding to letters weighing up to ½ ounce), according to the table in the notice sent from the Palace of Mafra on 20.1.1807 to the assistant postmaster of Funchal. 1069 imagePostal history. Madeira. 1790. Letter sent from London on 13.7.1790, having paid 1/6 of the packet postage from Falmouth to Lisbon. In Lisbon, it was forwarded by the British packet agent to Madeira Island, and the postage of ½ was applied, which corresponds to the British packet postage to be charged in Lisbon, with no additional charge for the sea route from Lisbon to Funchal. The indication “To Pay 1/2” means the amount to be charged to the recipient upon arrival, which was 6.8 MB and R. (Image 1) (Image 2)

MF# 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, new without gum, and with gum and hinge. Some oxide verstiges, the 50 reis light green stamp has a detached head, the 80 reis stamp has a cut along the upper right-hand thread, the 100 reis stamp has a detached and repaired head and the 120 reis stamp has thinning.(Image 1) (All Images)
