23 imageLisbon * Extraordinary Colour – In black, LF LSB-E1 on the cover of a letter dated, predictably, from Lisbon (24.02.1801) to Braga, with the postage of 60 réis beaten in black, to pay the postage of the 1st level of the extraordinary mail of a letter weighing up to 2 octaves (article by Luís Frazão in the CFP Bulletin no. 367 of March 1995). Handwritten annotation in sepia “Extraord.º do / Porto”. Well preserved copy, with the marks reasonably beaten. Catalogue value € 900.00.(Image 1) (All Images)

In Lisbon it was marked E, with a postage of 90 reis applied, for the 1st echelon of letters from Spain. These are the last markings of E, which would be replaced by Hespanha. It came to Lisbon on the Falmouth packet, where the postage of 420 was applied, to which 70 was added for the Portuguese territorial route. 27 imagePre-philately. TAXATION ERROR. Letter written in Porto on 27.11.1823, marked with the Porto dater of the same date, PRT 14, used as the shipping mark, and the postage of 40 reis applied to Lisbon, where it arrived on 12.1. At the Lisbon post office, the Porto dater was cancelled, as was the postage of 40, the postage changed to 90, and the letter was considered to have originated in Spain. It was written that the addressee belonged to the postal distribution district E, and the address was also “Rossio nº 60”. MB and MR.(Image 1) (Image 2)

32 imagePostal history. Pre-philately. Postage amendment. Letter sent from Lisbon to Sines on 19.12.1849, where it was received on 22.12. In Lisbon, the postage of 20 reis was applied, corresponding to a letter weighing up to 2/8 and for a distance of up to 10 leagues. However, Sines was served by the S. Tiago do Cacém post office, 16 leagues away from Lisbon, so the postage was amended to 25 reis. This error was recurrent in correspondence from Lisbon to Sines.(Image 1) (All Images)
