5 Proof imageMexico. 1856 Issue. Proof 2r. Light Green, engraved proof on the definitive paper, strip of six from the wide plate consisting of 60 units, featuring a stitch watermark and exhibiting different spacings than the original settings, without gum. Of the three types of proofs recorded in the first issue, this is the only known example of this particular type; a significant rarity from the first issue. Sold for $14,000 in the 2001 Regency auction (lot #1953). MEPSI certificate. Scott 3 (proof).

Yellow Green, a well-margined example on an entire letter to Guadalajara dated March 19, 1864, featuring a well-struck cancellation that does not tie the cover, which is typically found thus due to the shape of the cancel. The date on the cover confirms its authenticity. According to the Mazepa sale, this is the only known cover bearing a 2r. from this district; no census is available to us. In excellent condition. Scott 3; NF $650 as a single off cover.

9 imageMexico. 1856 Issue. Apam 1r. Yellow, blue overprint, first plate of 60 subjects, an impressive large block of twelve surrounded by large margins, with full original gum. Vertical crease between stamps as usually found in large multiples, small scissors' cut in margin at top and small stain on back between two stamps mentioned for accuracy. Very scarce and attractive. Filing crease lightly impinging on one of the stamps at right. Covers from this district are scarce, and this has the additional attribute, in contrast to others, of being in very fine condition. Blue, four singles showing clear to ample margins, on February 24, 1857 entire letter from Chilpancingo to Puebla, cancelled with Ciudad de Bravos handstamp. To our knowledge, a unique cover exhibiting this value, a significant rarity of the "Hidalgo" issue, as Ciudad Bravos was an active district post office for a very short period of time. Sold for €9,000 in a 2002 Afinsa auction (lot #22). 2024 MEPSI certificate. Scott 1; NF $14,000 for stamps as singles off cover.
