141 3 image1856 Provisionals Type-set and printed on surface-coloured paper at the Official Gazette, Georgetown. The Finest Example Recorded of One of the Great Worldwide Rarities. 4c. black on blue. 4c. black on blue "sugar paper" (paper coloured through), good margins, initialled "E.D.W." for postal clerk Wight, cancelled by "a 1 c" coded d.s. for 17 November 1856. Without doubt, this is the finest known example of this great classic rarity in British Empire and worldwide philately, confirmed by the fact that only about twelve examples are recorded -one of which is in the Royal Philatelic Collection. This gem is further enhanced by featuring the latest recorded usage. Friedl Certificate (1977). S.G. 27, £225,000. Photo
Provenance: Philipp von Ferrary, Sale 2 October 1921. "Great", M.

144 6 image1856 Provisionals Type-set and printed on surface-coloured paper at the Official Gazette, Georgetown. The Unique Mixed Franking in the 1856 Type-Set Issue. Covers. 1856 (16 June) envelope from London to Mahaicony, bearing GB 1d. red pair and 1855 4d. carmine on blued paper, both cancelled "18" in oval of bars, upon arrival 4c. black on magenta applied to pay the internal rate, cut octagonally with small margins, initialled "E.D.W.", tied by Demerara double-arc d.s. for 11 July and showing, on reverse, despatch c.d.s. and Demerara double-arc d.s. for 9 July. Fewer than fifteen covers bearing the 1856 provisional 4 cents on magenta are recorded, of which nine are cut octagonally. The greatest attribute of this outstanding and marvellous exhibition item is its unique combination, within the entire issue, with a foreign franking. Of great visual impact, not only for its combination franking, but also for its excellent quality. R.P.S. Certificate (1954). S.G. 24. Photo
