Lot 1334 - France. 1919. "G.C." paper ½c. on 1c. grey, block of fifty (two panes of twenty-five 5x5) from the top of the sheet with "GC" imprint and Millésime "9", the left hand pane with eight completely and four partly missing the surcharge due to a pre surcharging paper fold, three with surcharge on reverse, original gum with most remaining unmounted mint, some split and creased perforations, in no way detracting from this spectacular and great rarity, One of the greatest gems of post-classic France. The 'Hermione' Collection of France, 1849-1950, Parts VII and VIII - December 10, 2020

Spink are proud to offer parts VII and VIII of the fabulous Hermione Collection of France and Monaco. Over 300 lots from the classic issues to immediate post war being sold in part VII and with part VIII being a specialised collection of the 1945-54 Marianne de Gandon issue. A few highlights being:
  • Lot 1255, a wonderful example of the 1849 -52 1f. Bright vermilion, estimate €10,000-€20,000.
  • Lot 1274 1900-02 Mouchon 20c. Complete sheet, one with figure of value omitted, estimate €15,000-€30,000.
  • Lot 1313 1907 Sower 25c. Lack on blue, colour trial irregular block of 161, estimate €100,000-€200,000.
  • Lot 1334 1919 1/2c. On 1c. block of fifty, partly surcharged on the reverse, estimate €80,000-€160,000.
  • Lot 1426 1929-33 perf. 11 20f. From the top of the sheet, variety imperforate between stamp and margin, the unique example showing Croix de revere, estimate €30,000-€60,000.
