Eine der ganz grossen Stempelraritäten auf Waadt 5, laut Schäfer sind nur 3 Briefe bekannt. Ein schöner Brief dieser Seltenheit. Attest Rellstab 1996. Anmerkung: Diese Entwertung war nicht für Marken vorgesehen, sondern nur als Aufgabenebenstempel. Wahrscheinlich hat der Postbeamte vergessen, die Marke bei der Abgabe der Briefes zu entwerten. Später hat ein anderer Postbeamte, der den Aufgabestempel anbringen sollte, diesen Fehler bemerkt und korrigiert, indem er den Aufgabestempel ebenfalls auf die Marke aufgeschlagen hat. 244542 7 image1849, grosser Adler dunkelgrün, farbintensiv, allseits voll- bis breitrandig geschnitten, auf Faltbrief von Genf in die Enklave Céligny, klar, übergehend und kontrastreich entwertet mit leuchtender roter Genfer Rosette (AW5) und nebengesetzt « GENEVE 13 NOVE 49 10 1/2 M », sowie Taxierung « 1 » (Kreuzer), rückseitig Transitstempel « COPPET 14 NOV ». Ab 1. März 1844 wurden die Genfer Kantonalmarken mit 20 % Rabatt verkauft, um die Benutzung von Marken statt bar frankierter Briefe zu beförden. Deshalb kostete ein Ortsbrief frankiert mit einer Briefmarke nur 4 Cts. und ein Kantonsbrief 8 Cts., wärend bar frankierte Briefe noch 5 und 10 Cts. kosteten. Vom 1. Oktober bis zum 31. Dezember 1849 wurde die Lokaltaxe für alle Briefe auf 4 Cts. und die Kantonstaxe auf 7 Cts. herabgesetzt. Da es keine Marken zu 7 Cts. gab, konnten dann diese Briefe nur teilfrankiert werden und taxiert oder leicht überfrankiert mit zwei 5 Cts. Marken, welche effektiv insgesamt nur 8 Cts. kosteten, woraus sich eine leichte Überfrankatur von 1 Cts. ergab. Das Porto von Genf nach Céligny betrug 7 Cts, doch dieser Brief wurde nur mit 4 Cts. frankiert. Deshalb wurde er nochmal nachträglich in Coppet im Kanton Waadt mit 1 Kreuzer taxiert, da die waadtländische Währung Kreuzer und nicht Centimes war, was etwa 3.5 Genfer Cts. entspricht. Ein einmaliger, zierlicher Brief, welcher die Tarifspezialitäten des Kantons Genf und der Enklave Céligny darstellt und gleichzeitig mit Kreuzer und Centimes frankiert ist. 244544 7 image1849, grosser Adler dunkelgrün im waagerechten Paar, in frischen Farben, unten lupenrandig, sonst allseits vollrandig geschnitten, auf Briefvorderseite von Genf an Monsieur Gustave Rochette in Onex, je zart entwertet mit roter Genfer Rosette (AW5) und nebengesetzt « GENEVE 22 OCTO 49 10 1/2 M » in gleicher Farbe. Ab 1. Oktober bis 31. Dezember 1849 betrug der Tarif für einen Kantonsbrief 7 Cts. Da es keine Marken zu diesem Tarif gab, wurden die Briefe entweder teilfrankiert und taxiert oder mit 1 Cts. überfrankiert. Die Genfer Rosette AW Nr. 5 wurde am 22. Oktober 1849 eingesetzt und bis 21. Januar 1850 verwendet. Es handelt sich also bei diesem Brief um einen Ersttagsbrief dieser Rosette. Diese Rosette ist gleichzeitig mit der Waadt 4 erschienen. Ein Sensationsstück der Genfer Kantonalpost, welches Markenseltenheit, Tarifspezialität und Entwertungsrarität kombiniert. Attest Kimmel 2007. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

Der Postmeister in Porrentruy hat zuerst Vermerk « TIMBRE NUL EN SUISSE » angebracht, der aber bei der Grenzübergabe in Delle durchgestrichen wurde. An der gleichen Stelle wurden die Marken entwertet und der rote PD Stempel angebracht, der ein weiterer Beweis für die Anerkennung der Marken ist. Eine einmalige, anerkannte Verwendung der 1. A most attractive use. The Dardenne 1 penny is a very rare stamp on cover. We only record three covers exclusively franked by a 1d Dardenne pair, two are rare inland covers and the Kanai printed matter franking which we sold in 1993 for 28.000 CHF (estimated at 50.000 USD in the D.F pricing guide). The extremely fine cut square stamp has wide to huge margins and fresh colours. This imposing showpiece of the Ferrary collection is by far the finest example known of this classic world-rarity of which only 6 cut square singles are recorded. Expertise: Signed Herbert Bloch (Friedl Expert Committee, New York), detailed certificate W. Jakubek (1986) and RPS (2016). Provenance: - Collection Philippe la Renotiére de Ferrary, 23 june 1921 lot 54: “4c noir sur bleu ... ex. superbe obl. sur fragment certainement un des plus beau exemplaires qui existent”. It sold for 44500 FRF which at the time would have bought 227oz of gold, which is the equivalent of £720'000 today. - Caspary collection (May 14, 1957 lot 260): ”good colour and fresh.
