Note: George Frederick Jackson (1860–1938) was a British Arctic explorer who led the Jackson–Harmsworth Expedition to Franz Josef Land (1894–1897). His surveys greatly improved knowledge of the archipelago, and he famously rescued Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen in 1896. Jackson's scientific achievements secured his place among Britain's foremost polar explorers. (Image 1) (Image 2)
