32327   image1937 Hindenburg Crash Cover. Envelope intended for the return journey and transported to North America by airship following the ill-fated Hindenburg airship LZ 129. This mail was contained in a box and survived the disaster unscathed, so the covers were postmarked May 10 New York PAQUEBOT. Very few of these covers were intended for international transport, such as this one to Switzerland. It was delivered to the recipient with a separate letter from the Basel District Postal Directorate on May 26, 1937, less than three weeks after the disaster. A truly remarkable find for any collector of Swiss air or Zeppelin mail collector. (Sieger 454 Cb; Mi. 63Da €4'000 plus €4'000 for the postal administration letter). (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
