Note: The Two Penny post was an extension of the Dublin Penny Post and conducted by the rules and officials of the Penny Post. The service was extended in 1774 to 4 miles and in 1819 to 6 miles, a further 1d being charged on the delivery of each

Dublin/India Ship Letter – 1838 (May 23) Entire letter from the Calcutta, India to The London Missionary Society, endorsed pr."Lady Clifford" and noted insided that "as there will be no steamer going to the Red Sea for a month or two,
this is forwarded by the Cape Route" land at Dublin and showing on face the very rare Dublin mixed type face Ship Letter/from/INDIA in black, struck to denote the lower rate of fourpence applicable to incoming India Letters, Calcutta and London bs.
Rated 4d India and 15d Dublin to London, plus 2d London local rate paying a total of "1/9". An extremely rare usage with only a hndful recorded. Provenance: Brian Wallas and Robertson. Mounted on the original Robertson part page with his notations.

Westport Ship Letter – 1820 (December 24) Entire letter from the Portuguese Colony of Madeira, to Edinburgh, sent by private vessel and landed on the west coast of Ireland and bearing on the face the extremely rare serpentine strike of
the fancy scroll “SHIP LETTER” handstamp of Westport in black, with matching WESTPORT/133 2-line mileage handstamp, alongside, sent via the Dublin Ship Letter Office where large Ship Rtae handstamp "6" in red was applied. Backstamped Dublin tablet
SHIP LETTER and octagonal General Post datestamp, plus Edinburgh arrival. Rated “1/7” (later amended to “2/9 1/2”) to include the Scots Additional Halfpenny Tax.
A very rare cover, with only two recorded examples of the Westport Ship Letter handstamp known from this single landing of mail there in January 1821, the other being from Funchal to Cardiff. A major rarity of Irish Maritime Postal History. (Image 1)

Limerick Ship Letter – 1827 (April 18) Entire letter from Montevideo, Uruguay to London, landed on the west coast of Ireland and bearing on the face a fine strike of the fancy scroll “SHIP LETTER” handstamp of Limerick in red, with
matching LIMERICK / SE.11.1827 / 94 mileage circular datestamp, also in red, alongside. Rated “3/2” (later amended to “3/8”) for a double rate letter — comprising 6d Ship Letter, 14d mileage, and 2d packet charges, doubled. Reverse with transit and
London arrival backstamps.
A great rarity of maritime postal history, being the only recorded example of the Limerick Scroll “Ship Letter” marking.
