Transitional Period
Lot Symbol Catalog No. Descrip Opening
60721 ,,   imageTransitional Period Exhibition Collection 1922-25 An interesting and well presented & knowledgeably written up collection on 18 album pages, showing Ireland's Transitional Period through envelopes, postcards and postmarks. This wonderful assembly documents the practice that during the Transitional Period from February 17, 1922 to March 31, 1922, Irish mail could be posted with British stamps and vice versa mail in the United Kingdom could be posted with Irish stamps. The collection is arranged in two sections. Section one with the first eight pages shows Irish & British mail posted with stamps from their respective countries. Interesting combination frankings, plus GB postage due usages when GB stamps were not accepted. Section two illustrates the British Postal Stationary and Postal Due labels which were used in Ireland from February 17, 1922 to 1925. The stationery includes postal cards, envelopes, and the various sizes and colours of the registered envelopes. A wonderful collection for the student and an excellent basis for expansion(Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6)
